Ran PC Tools antivirus and now my desktop is empty and keyboard functions aren’t working?

I got some ad virus last night (my antivirus literally had just expired and had to go up the road to get a new one). I asked a few people I chat with online and they recommened pc tools antivirus’s free download. I ran the quick version and it found/removed 20+ problems. Then I ran the full version and it found 3 more so I removed those. As soon as they were removed all the desktop icons, bottom tool bar ect disapperead. Then this morning I turned it back on to see if it was “back” and not the wireless mouse isn’t lighting up in thw tower, I insterted a disk and it didn’t try and run it. I did get “ctrl, alt, dlt” to open but nothing else works. I don’t give a shit about the computer because were getting a new one for christmas but I NEED the pictures off of it. Is there n e thing I can do to get them? And if you know a way to fix the comp what is it?

Ah the woes of Windows and Apple OS’s. Since it does not matter about the computer I would find a computer you could use and go online and download one of those free ISO Recorder/Burner programs and install it. Then go to http://distrowatch.com and check out the countless versions of Linux. Once you find one you like (the following are some of the better versions: Mint 9 LXDE, Ubuntu 10.04 Gnome, Pardus 2009.2, MacPup 511, Fedora 14, Fusion 14, and many others. Just make sure it is 32 bit.)
Linux will give you a great computing experience and will give new life to that old computer. You will never ever have any security issues or crashes. There is never a need to install any other secuirty suite software or utilities assuming you get a good download and burn to CD or DVD depending on how big the distro is.
If you have any more questions give me a shout. Hope this helps you out.

    Reboot.
    Tap F8
    Choose safe mode
    Run rstui from start button
    restore couple days prior infection.
Scan with SD again (to make sure you haven’t restored some malware). It should not cause problems this time.

Alternative: Press Ctrl+shift+esc (or launch task manager) and run explorer.exe
