Programs, and install another, ?
I see here on Answers that some people have trouble uninstalling AV, why is that?
Does anyone know about PC Tools Anti Virus? Good or?
And which one is the easiest to use of the free ones, ?
I had AVG, but it quit updating, said I was not connected to the internet, when I was, other than that it was easy to use!
So I am looking at Avast and Avira also, and recommendation?

The biggest reason user have problems with uninstalling Anti-virus software is they don’t turn off protection before they uninstall. You must turn off everything av, anti-spyware, firewall if it has one. Look for any thing that may be running. Then uninstall, you should not have any problems then.

I used a system restore after contracting a virus, i of course removed the virus first, and restored it as i was instructed to do. Now i cannot view sites such as pc tools and forum motion. If you can help me please let me know?

Try to go to security sites. Like Norton, AVG, if you can’t go to security sites then you are still infected.

I was told to change anti-virus from avast to Kasperky IS 2011 but after install PC reboots and then when i try to open it says “this action is only valid for products installed”. even removing or repairing. And then suddenly the PC rebooted, then i used rescue disk and its still doing.

You probably need to start with a clean setup. Avast needs a special tool to completely remove all its traces:

You can use the license key for KIS2011 to activate the 2012 version. Just make sure that what you have is a KIS license key so it can only be used on a KIS product. In other words, you cannot use a KAV key to activate a KIS product or vice-versa.

The program still opens but does not function after the main menu. How do i change the settings back to normal?

Without seeing the actual program I can’t walk you through step-by-step, but you can usually change which programs are blocked by going to your firewall in the actual security program (from the main page) and then uncheck the program.

Ive worked on it for days now. I did all the normal things like buying pc tools, malware, and deleting the registry and processes. I even did a search and deleted it from there. Still when I go on the internet this dam yellow bar appears ” Your computer is a risk click AV Green” OMG!

if the alert is still there, it must be displayed not by greenav but by some kind of adware/trojan. you need decent antispyware to delete things like that. run a scan in safe mode to remove the infections.

We also added PC Tools Firewall Plus to use instead of Windows firewall. Along with the Firewall came ThreatFire™ AntiVirus. My question is this can I leave all as is or witll Threat Fire affect my AVG antivirus. I am tired of installing/uninstalling as I had to attempt with Norton recently without success. Help???

System Backup
Step 1
Close all currently running programs and print these directions because you will have to restart your computer.
Step 2
Backup your computer system before removing spyware of any kind. To backup your computer, click the Windows “Start” button and select “All Programs.” Scroll up and select “Accessories.” Select “System Tools ” and click the “System Restore” utility.
Step 3
Click “Create a new restore point” on the backup utility welcome screen and type a name for the restore point. Click “Create” to backup your computer system.
Running Virus and Spyware Removal Tools
Step 1
Launch your antivirus or spyware-removal tool, if you have one, and update it. Consider free programs such as AVG or Avast if you do not have a virus removal program (see Resources). Consider free spyware removal tools such as Malwarebyte’s Antimalware, Spybot Search and Destroy, or Ad-Aware.
Step 2
Click the Windows “Start” button and click “Restart” after updating your program. Press “F8″ repeatedly before the Windows logo appears to launch the “Advanced Options” menu.
Step 3

Launch your updated antivirus or spyware removal tool and run a full system scan. Remove any detected spyware.
Removing Spyware Files from the Registry and System Folders
Step 1
Click the Windows “Start” button and click “Run” or “Start Search” (Windows Vista users). Type “regedit” (Without quotes) and press “Enter” to launch the registry editor.
Step 2
Click the “+” button next to the folders on the left panel until you get to the folder containing the spyware entries. Right-click the spyware entries on the right panel and click “Delete.” If you do not see entry files to delete, press “F3″ to open the search box. Type “spyware” and click “OK.” When the spyware entry is located, delete it. Exit the registry.
Step 3
Click the Windows “Start” button and click “Search” to open the search utility. Click “All Files and Folders” to open the search box and click “More Advanced Options.”
Step 4
Place a check on all the options under “More Advanced Options” to increase the chances of tracing spyware files. Type in the spyware files to delete and click “Search.” Once they are located in system folders, delete them.
Step 5
Clear browser cache and history to remove additional spyware such as tracking cookies. While clearing the browser cache varies with different Web browsers, the cleaning options are generally available in the “Tools” or “Preferences” menu in your browser. Empty your recycle bin and restart your computer.

XP antimalware is telling me that my computer is infected. I ran a scan of my computer using norton antivirus and it came out clean so I couldn’t get rid of anything. What should I do?

Few things I recommend…One download AVG Virus scanner.
Two if you know when you recieved the virus you can go do a system restore before you obtained the virus. By going to Start > Acessories > System Tools > System Restore
Sometimes you have to be in Safe Mode for this to work , which requires when you turn your pc on , you need to press f8 and tell it to boot up in safe mode, then go to system restore.
And the third thing I suggest you get is Ad-ware by Lavasoft its a great free application that will remove all your adware problems….

Try cleaning up your computer by finding registry errors, erase unnecessary files, broken shorcuts, clear some RAM. I use 3 tools that help me a lot: Registry Mechanic (by PC Tools), RegToy (requires .NET Framework 2.0 – This is the BEST!) and AVG Antivirus.
