I’ve tried them all except PC Tools. AVG let a few worms and virus’ through. Avast eats up to much processor. I finally stuck with AOL.

    First – AOL
    Second – Avast

I like Active Virus Shield. A lot. Active Virus Shield is made by Kaspersky which is one of top-rated anti-virus vendors in the world.

In recent tests, the most popular free anti-virus, AVG, was only able to detect about 82% of a very large sample of viruses. On the other hand, Active Virus Shield was able to detect better than 99% in the same test.
    Full test chart is here:
    http://www.virus.gr/english/fullxml/default.asp?id=82&mnu=82

Active Virus Shield has excellent virus detection rates and is extremely light on using your computer resources. (6mb ram)

Active Virus Shield detects and removes spyware, also.

And it updates up to 15 times a DAY with new virus definitions, 7 days a week!

Good stuff, free for everyone from:

I’d vote for (highest – lowest starting from number one):

*1. AOL Active Virus Shield for:
    a. its high detection rate which updates automatically every hour
    b. its user-friendly interface
    c. it can scan a lot of viruses…which can detect about 99.62%
    after a test in http://www.virus.gr

*2. Avast! 4 Home Edition for:
    a. its real-time protection (also in Active Virus Shield)
    b. it has an option to delete a virus once found
    ……, can detect about 87.46.

Cons: too many icons and confusing user interface

    *3. AntiVir PersonalEdition for:
    a. it can detect malware better than Avast and AVG
    b. it’s cute umbrella icon
    ……, can detect about 94.26%

    Cons: a very sluggish update

    *4. AVG Free Edition for:
    a. a simple interface
    ……, can detect about 82.82%

    Cons: low virus detection
